School of Education (SoE), Doctor Harisingh Gour Vishwavidyalaya, Sagar came into existence initially as Post Graduate Basic Training (PGBT) College of the Madhya Pradesh government in 1961. The PGBT College was also called as Government College of Education (Shaskiya Snatkottar Shiksha Mahavidhyalaya).
It was a famous Teachers’ Training Institute in the Sagar district of Madhya Pradesh running B.Ed., M.Ed. and Diploma training programmes. Further, state government handed over this college by its letter no. Trgk/67/2053 dated 19 June 1967 to Saugor University with all its physical and human resources and it was renamed as ‘University College of Education’.
After the up-gradation of the university in to a Central University in 2009, this University College of Education with all its entities and amenities was transformed into a Department of Education at 27 March, 2011. Further, in December, 2015 Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) Government of India upgraded this department in to School of Education with its two centres namely Centre for Pre-service Teacher Education (CPSTE) and Centre for Professional Development of Teacher Educators (CPDTE).
